Middle School Information
Our middle school division consists of grades 6 through 8. Classes are conducted in a departmentalized fashion. Students have more than one teacher throughout the school day. Creative learning is a very significant part of the middle school program at Hayworth. Research projects, class presentations, and field trips challenge the student to learn apart from the classroom lessons and lectures.
Each day starts off with devotions and announcements in homeroom. Students study deeper into God's Word during Bible class. In the middle school the curriculum becomes more specific. Science is broken down into Earth Science and Life Science. Social Studies is handled similarly with Geography and American History being covered over two years. The language arts curriculum continues to cover spelling, grammar, vocabulary and reading but takes a step further into literature and creative writing. In math class students are introduced to Algebra and develop the needed skills to be successful in the high school curriculum. Keyboarding and computer application skills are required in middle school.
Other subject areas that are offered in the middle school program include choir, computer, art and physical education. Preparing our students for high school is a constant focus in the curriculum.
Our relationship with ACSI provides many activities for our students. These activities provide an opportunity for fellowship, discipleship, friendship and competition. Each year select students from 6th, 7th and 8th grades attend the ACSI Middle School Leadership Conference. Students are challenged to be servant/leaders in their school. Workshops and peer interaction provide for growth and challenge.
Interscholastic competition in several academic areas is provided for our student body. Our students are challenged to hone their skills in academic areas as well as the arts. Each year we have been excited as our students have received awards in these competitions. Hayworth students have competed in the following areas:
- Art Festival
- Creative Writing Festival
- Math Olympics
- Music Festival
- Spelling Bees
